The German Pinscher is the ancestor of many other German breeds. They were used to guard coaches and eliminate vermin in homes.

The Pomeranian is still one of the most popular dogs owned today. They are gentle and active dogs that do well with families but should nevertheless be supervised when around children.

The German Spitz is a small spitz dog that is known for its pointy ears and curly tail. They were developed in the German Pomeranian region.
10. Hovawart
The Hovawart is a medium to large size German dog breed. The breed originated in the Black Forest region and is used today in jobs such as rescue and tracking.

Keeshonds are very playful dogs that do well with children and continue to be found in family homes today.

Eurasier are from Germany in the 1960s. They are gentle-natured but also alert and make great watchdogs.

The Leonberger originated in the 1980s as a working dog. They were used for general purpose farm work, guarding, and draft work. The breed is very intelligent and gentle.
14. Weimaraner
The breed originated in the German Court of Grand Duke Karl August of Weimar. They are gentle and intelligent.
15. Schnauzer
The Schnauzers were used as guard dogs and rat catchers. They originated in Germany in the 15th century.
16. Affenpinscher
The Affenpinscher is sometimes known by the English translation “Monkey Terrier”. They now make very cute pets.
