Hillary Clinton's Washington, D.C. home, known as "Whitehaven", is located in the upscale Massachusetts Avenue neighborhood. The house, built in 1951, required significant renovations to enhance the natural light and create more space for relaxation.
1. The Living Room
The living room and entryway are painted in Ms. Clinton's beloved pale yellow. Fruitwood sconces from 19th-century Italy flank one of three paintings bought by the Clintons in Hanoi. A photo from a skit the couple performed at a White House Correspondents' Dinner rests on an Amy Howard mirrored table.
2. The Dining Hall
Ms. Clinton's dining room serves multiple purposes: formal dinners, buffets, and cocktail parties. It holds cherished memories, such as hosting foreign secretaries from the G8. Now, her grandchildren also enjoy playing here. The room is adorned with vibrant wall paint, showcasing a Russian still life painting and a colorful rug from Azerbaijan, chosen for both aesthetics and practicality.
3. The Reading Room
The family room on the second floor is adorned with the vibrant China Seas fabric, a favorite of Ms. Clinton. It serves as a cozy space for the family to unwind, read, and enjoy television.
4. The Solarium
In collaboration with architect Donald Lococo and landscape gardener Lila Fendrick, Howe transformed the property into a stunning showcase. A sun-drenched conservatory now seamlessly expands from the rear of the original structure. The ground floor has also been reimagined to enhance the flow and functionality.
