When it comes to blended families, weddings can be very challenging. However, this father of the bride did something really heartwarming on his daughter’s wedding and moved not only his family, but also thousands of strangers on the internet.
Todd Bachman, a 43-year-old father from Ohio, was walking his beloved daughter, Brittany Peck, down the aisle on her wedding. To everyone’s surprise, he suddenly stopped and released his hold on her harm, and ran to the front row, which caused quite a stir. Why did he do that?
It all dated back to two weeks ago before the wedding. Having no idea who should walk her down the aisle on her wedding day, Brittany, a 21-year-old girl from a remarried family, turned to her biological dad, Mr. Bachman, for help. “Dad, something’s bothering me,” Brittany cried on the phone, which almost broke her dad’s heart. “Don’t worry, I’ve already got a plan,” he consoled her. “My girl was so torn, and the last thing I wanted for her was to be torn.”
Even though Mr. Bachman’s relationship with Brittany’s stepfather, Todd Cendrosky, had been strained since the very first time they met, he decided to put his daughter’s happiness before everything else on her big day. Therefore, he prepared a surprise for everyone at the wedding.
That was exactly the reason Mr. Bachman had stopped unexpectedly on the way walking his daughter down the aisle. He walked up to his daughter’s stepfather, Mr. Cendrosky, who sat on the first row watching the ceremony, grabbed and pulled him down the aisle to lead their daughter to the altar together. Everyone was speechless and emotional, including Mr. Cendrosky.
“Every time we tried on tuxes or did some planning, it crossed my mind that I’d be sitting in the crowd, not walking her down the aisle,” Mr. Cendrosky said after the wedding. He never expected to have an opportunity to walk Brittany down the aisle, as her biological father was going to perform the role at the ceremony.
“For me to thank him for all the years of helping raise our daughter would not be enough,” Mr. Bachman explained to the onlookers on why he decided to invite Brittany’s stepdad. “There is no better way to thank somebody than to assist me walking her down the aisle, as he has been as much a part of her life as I have.”
As Mr. Cendrosky considered Brittany as his own daughter, he was thrilled to hand his girl off to her groom, Jeremy Peck, along with her biological dad. “I always wanted to walk a daughter down the aisle,” he said. “… and when Todd grabbed my hand, I got weak in the knees and lost it. Nothing’s better in my life. It was the most impactful moment in my life. We have become family, and the children’s needs need to come first.”
Everything had been captured on the camera by the wedding photographer Delia D Blackburn, and the images of this affecting moment were shared on the Facebook, receiving over 1.1 million “likes” and half a million comments. “The father is one of the most awesome men I’ve seen,” wrote one who admired Mr. Bachman’s actions. “Lucky girl to have a father like that and to have a stepdad who loves her that much too!”
